Are You Really Ready to Start a Business?
Sometimes we think we're ready, but we really aren't.
Many times that has to do with a sudden great idea that keeps us awake at night or that great opportunity you just can't pass up.
But before you go and spend your hard-earned money, there are some things you need to do first to get into business and things that are essential to staying in business.
Regardless of what your business is, I will say that starting off on the right foot, so to speak is key. But even more important than that is to put systems in place to make sure that you continue to be profitable.
That is where business coaching and mastermind groups come into play.
If you aren't familiar with a mastermind group, it is basically a group of business owners who get together with their business coach on a pre-determined regular basis to exchange ideas and help each other. This group is small and intimate in order to provide for the best learning for all participants.
Being ready to start a business should include you getting yourself involved in a coaching group. You can start with a marketing group, a copywriting group, etc. The point is, the group doesn't have to be about the business you want to start. In fact, in the beginning, it shouldn't be. You want to be able to get ideas from other industries in order to translate them to your particular venture. This ability will keep you way ahead of your competition and elevate you to a place where your business has no competition.
Soon I will be starting my own mastermind group. This group will be for women in business who work from home and/or desire to work online.
This group will have access to a monthly newletter and coaching via CD and phone conversations. I will also set up a special site for sharing in a community setting.
I will only accept a certain number of potential members in the mastermind group, but there will be an opportunity to participate in the paid membership site community.
More details will follow, but I want you all to get excited about this! I'm totally excited. This is time for change and I already have many business and personal goals on my list for 2009 and the next 5 and 10 years. (I know I'm a bit of a nerd!)
Leave a comment and let me know what you think. Are you excited about this? Do you want this to be the year you do more than you've ever done before? Then join me and let's get this done!

Frustrated by Your Wages?
Another day another dollar, right?
Well, for some of us, the jobs we have don't really make the money worth it.
When you can't spend Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve with your family because you are in debt and need the extra money, that's a truly horrible feeling.
I have resolved that I will not be in that situation in 2009.
However, when you do finally receive your paycheck and it doesn't really reflect the hours you put in because your hourly pay is so low, you wonder if it's really worth it in the end.
And if you get tips at your job then you have to contend with the fact that tips are unpredictable. Sometimes you don't take home enough tips to fill your gas tank.
What do you do?
I say its time to find something you can do where you are getting paid for your hard work and efforts. Most of us are underpaid, but when you start your own business, you should not undervalue your services.
By valuing your services properly, some of you will easily be able to make in one hour what might have previously taken you 10 hours of work (after taxes) to make. Doesn't that sound enticing?
In upcoming posts, I'll look at some low-cost businesses that can be started from home for less than $1000. I feel like if you can do that, then you have lowered your risk and increased your opportunity to live the lifestyle you want -- not the one dictated to you by your manager or boss.
What are your career/business plans for 2009?
